318 Ceramics is very excited to be able to announce that this year they will be running a summer school with the highly acclaimed slipware potter Niek Hoogland. This is a rare opportunity to attend an intensive master class course with this internationally renowned potter who has exhibited all over the world.
This course is suitable for intermediate to advanced throwers.
“Decoration starts in the making, the shape of the pot, a pouring lip on a jug or a well pulled handle, a texture made on the wheel all become part of the whole process of decoration”
This intensive five day course will focus on throwing and slipware ceramics and completion of a tableware set from designing to final completion. Students will have plenty of scope for individual experimentation and interpretation of this theme.
Throughout the course students will have the opportunity to experiment with different decorating techniques including pouring, slip trailing and painting and sgraffito. We will also look into slipware ceramics from a historical perspective and as a facet of contemporary ceramics.
The course includes 2.5 bags of clay, and the cost of firing and glazing a dinner set of 12 pieces to be collected at a mutually convenient date. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided each day.
Place are limited so it is advisable to book early.
